Today in celebrity feuds no one could have prepared for: Katy Perry and Wendy's appear to be beefing. It all started when Wendy's official Twitter account responded to Katy Perry's return from space by tweeting "can we send her back."
Apparently, this tweet did NOT go unnoticed by Katy. A source tells Page Six that âWe understand the internet loves a joke, but thereâs a clear difference between humor and targeted hostility and this wasnât harmless banter. This was a billion dollar brand using its platform to publicly demean a woman âŠWendyâs didnât make a joke â they made a choice. Their recent posts were not only disrespectful, but blatantly inappropriate.â
But wait, they had more to say! âWendyâs may think theyâre being clever or witty, but what theyâre really doing is feeding a culture of online bullying that everyone agrees has gone too far. When billion-dollar brands join in, itâs irresponsible. Theyâre not adding to the conversation, theyâre dragging it down and this kind of behavior contributes to a culture where women are punished for standing out or a woman daring to do something different is a target."
The insider added, "Whatâs worse is that the face of Wendyâs is a woman, which makes this decision not just hypocritical, but painfully ironic. Everyone expected more from a brand with this kind of platform. Wendyâs should 'do the right thing."
Cut to Wendy's, who dropped this statement: "We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendyâs has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent."
Welp. We'll keep you updated as this feud progresses.
